Answers will vary. Early research of individuals and organizations in the midst of environmental change found that people often experience change as a threat and respond by relying on well-learned and dominant forms of behavior. That is, people often become rigid and reactive in the midst of change, rather than open and responsive. This behavior works well in the face of gradual, incremental change. Big changes disrupt people's habitual behavior and force them to learn new skills, often creating discomfort and discontent.
