What are some of the changes that occur in the child’s brain during early childhood?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: The white matter of the brain, which is essential for the development of the neural pathways that connect individual parts of the brain, undergoes its most prominent increase in the first 3 to 4 years of life (Moon et al., 2011), and the amount of gray matter will increase until late childhood (Houston, Herting, & Sowell, 2014). The corpus callosum, the thick band of nerve fibers that connects the two hemispheres of the brain, also myelinates rapidly during early childhood, allowing the two hemispheres to communicate and better coordinate activities that use both sides of the body at the same time.
