How can the nurse assist J.B. in combating fatigue during his treatment?

What will be an ideal response?

• Teach J.B. to pace activities and that frequent rest periods are helpful. Assist him with activities of
daily living (ADLs) as needed.
• Have him sleep 8 hours at night. He may need to nap during the day; if he does nap, have him try
to sleep for less than 1 hour at a time.
• Encourage him to exercise each day. Go for a 15- to 30-minute walk or do stretches or yoga. Initiate
a physical therapy (PT) consultation if needed.
• Monitor him for hematologic values consistent with anemia (hemoglobin less than 14 g/dL), and
consult with the health care provider accordingly regarding erythropoietin or blood component
therapy.
