A
The Allen test is most appropriate to use in screening the vision of a 2-year-old child. This test contains seven cards of familiar objects. Each picture is presented to the child at a distance of 15 feet. Results are normal if the child can name three out of seven cards within three to five trials. The Hirschberg test is used to screen for strabismus. The Snellen E chart is used for children over 3 years of age or any child who cannot read the alphabet. The adult Snellen chart can be used on children as young as 6 years, provided they are able to read the alphabet.
