How is the use of computer technology by criminals and law enforcement similar too and different from the use of other types of technology to perpetrate crimes and bring perpetrators to justice?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Answers will vary. Students should mention that many types of technology (weaponry and chemistry, for example) are used by both criminals and law enforcement. They should recognize that the use of computer technology has removed barriers of time and place for both criminals and law enforcement and allows the infiltration of both private residences and places of business remotely. It has also made both theft and the investigation of theft possible without leaving noticeable traces when done electronically – if someone breaks into a home or residence and takes a television or computer, it is obvious; if someone breaks into a computer or smartphone and steals images, the victim may not even know that a crime was committed.
