Officers should obtain all information and evidence required to apprehend and prosecute the offender. They should obtain a detailed account of the crime, including the suspect's actions and statements, special characteristics or oddities, and any unusual sexual behaviors. They should also determine exactly where and how the attack occurred, what happened before and after the attack, and whether the victim can give any motive for the attack. Investigators should also make a complete report of the victim's appearance and behavior: presence of liquor or drugs? bruises, scratches or marks; manner of speech; emotional condition; appearance of clothes or hair; color of face; smeared makeup; torn clothes; and stains. Officers should take photographs to supplement their notes. At the initial interview, the needed information includes the victim's name, age, home address, work address, telephone number(s), and any prior relationship with the offender, if the offender is known. At a later interview, investigators should obtain additional information about the victim.
