How do bones develop?
Bones develop early in life, at the 5th week during gestation. Bones begin as soft, rubbery cartilage. At the 7th week, ossification occurs—replacing the cartilage with hard, mineralized bone. Ossification is usually complete in early adult life (college-age students).
