Describe three research studies that have helped to criminalize intimate partner violence
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: The most famous research was the Minneapolis domestic violence experiment in the early 1980s. This was because it was the first experiment designed to look at which of the three options resulted in a reduction in the number of reoffenders of intimate partner violence. There are two other studies which also looked at intimate partner violence: the Wolfgang homicide study in 1958 and the Bard study in 1968. Wolfgang's study in 1958 showed that 65% of the 500 homicide victims were found to be relatives, close friends, paramours, or same-sex partners of the principal offender. In the Bard study of 1968, police officers were given a month-long course followed by weekly in-service trainings, since family disturbances are frequent calls for police. The goal was to reduce officer injury and have the police work more with other helping organizations.
