When students are completing research using the Internet, why is it important for the teacher to filter the websites in advance? Aside from filtering, list six additional guidelines for Internet research

What will be an ideal response?

ANS: Teachers select websites in advance (or filter them) so that students don't waste their time on unproductive sources that are beyond their reading level, have inappropriate material, include too much material, or are overly distracting. Other guidelines: 1) focus research on finding information needed to solve a problem or complete a project, rather than on finding answers to a list of questions; 2) keep students focused on the problem they are trying to solve or the area they are attempting to explore; 3) guide students in the interpretation and use of the data they find; 4) guide students in finding creative and innovative ways to present information; 5) encourage students to use the information they gather to further others' understanding of the topic; 6) invite students to collaborate with others in designing a final product.
