What will be an ideal response?

The authors conclude that there is compelling evidence that maltreatment alters genetic expression, autonomic and HPAaxis activity, and cortical structure and function. However, they also note that more research is needed to understand more specifically maltreatment’s effects on these processes. They call for research that clearly links certain types of maltreatment to neurobiological sequelae so that clinicians can make more informed decisions about treatment and better evaluate treatments.
