Identify and briefly describe each of the stages of relational escalation
What will be an ideal response?
In the pre-interaction stage you observe a person or talk to others about the person
without having direct interaction. In the initiation stage, participants ask one another
questions to determine what they have in common. In the exploration stage, partners
will disclose more in-depth information about themselves, but physical contact and
time spent together is still limited. In the intensification stage, partners will begin to
depend on one another for self-confirmation, and they will begin to spend a great deal
more time together, have a more intimate physical distance, and personalize their
language. In the intimacy stage partners provide the primary confirmation of
self-concept, communication is highly personalized and synchronized, and there may
be a formal declaration of their commitment such as a wedding.
