Describe the cause(s) of child death in the early modern period

What will be an ideal response?

English records as late as 1829 cite the cause of death for infants, including babies drowned in pits full of water, cisterns, wells, ponds, and even pans of water. Babies were also starved by their nurses or killed by burning or scalding. A common form of death for children was overlaying or lying upon a child. This form of suffocation by carelessness accounted for 20 deaths in one English city in 1920, according to Samuel Radbill.
