Discuss the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations and why requirements are different for the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) than for the physician’s office.

What will be an ideal response?

When CMS puts out regulations to be followed, they take into consideration the type of facility and what procedures or services will be provided. In a physician’s office, they do less invasive procedures, and the patient’s treatment is less risky.
In an ASC, the patient undergoes small procedures that require more regulations due to the risk of infection or injury. CMS has provided stricter rules for the ASC due to the nature of business and risk to patients.
