Which manifestation is associated with a dilutional hyponatremia?

A. Jugular vein distension in the upright position
B. Presence of dependent edema
C. Increased urine osmolarity
D. Narrow pulse pressure

A
A dilutional hyponatremia occurs when there is an excess of water in the vascular compartment. This condition results in hypervolemia accompanying the hyponatremia. The extra fluid increases the venous pressure. Although more fluid is present, the fluid enters the cells and the resulting edema is not dependent nor does it pit when pressure is applied.
