Globalization is defined as a process of social homogenization by which the experiences of everyday life, marked by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, can foster a standardization of cultural expressions around the world. The globalization of knowledge, which describes the increase in understanding that comes from a sharing of information between cultures, is beginning to play a significant role in both the process of theory formation within criminology and the development of American crime control policies.
