Suppose that a child in a class grabbed his neighbor’s coloring paper and ripped it up. Briefly explain how a teacher would deal with this behavior by using guidance.

What will be an ideal response?

Student responses will vary but should accurately demonstrate a teacher using guidance. A sample response follows. A teacher using guidance would explain to the child why the behavior was wrong, then follow-up with the child repeatedly to make sure the child is changing the behavior. In the future, the child receiving guidance would likely stop behaving that way because he or she knows it is wrong.
