According to Anderson and Bower, how are images and words stored and recalled?

What will be an ideal response?

Propositional theory suggests that we do not store mental representations in the form of images or mere words. We may experience our mental representations as images, but these images are epiphenomena—secondary and derivative phenomena that occur as a result of other more basic cognitive processes. According to propositional theory, our mental representations (sometimes called "mentalese") more closely resemble the abstract form of a proposition. A proposition is the meaning underlying a particular relationship among concepts. Anderson and Bower (1973) have moved beyond their original conceptualization of propositional theory to a more complex model that encompasses multiple forms of mental representation. Others, such as Pylyshyn (2006), however, still hold to their original position.
