What is the social influence strategy of social proof? Provide an example

What will be an ideal response?

Social proof is an influence strategy that relies on the tendency we all have to behave in a particular way because others are doing so. For example, students often try to persuade a professor that no other professors require term papers, in order to influence the professor to reconsider the term paper assignment. Another example can be seen when a group of friends wear the same brand of clothing because they are influenced by each other.
