Primary questions are usually prepared prior to the interview and are used to introduce key ideas or topics in the interview. Probing questions are used to prod for additional information related to a primary question. Probing questions are related to primary questions in that they follow behind primary questions to give the interviewer more information about the interviewee and his or her answers. An example of a primary questions is “What sparked your interest in public relations work?” A probing question would follow up on the answer to a primary question such as “Can you tell me more about that?”
