Must the formal definition of a figure or concept be used during the initial introduction? Why or why not?
What will be an ideal response?
A definition selected need not meet all of the requirements of a formal definition of the concept. A teacher initially may choose a simplified definition that may not be technically correct but will help the students master the concept (a rectangle has four sides and four corners). More sophisticated definitions will be used in later grades. This is done to prevent students from having to learn a new concept and new vocabulary at the same time.
