You are an investigator that chooses several different styles of interview techniques, often based on crime type and attitude of the criminal. Define and discuss a minimum of two interview styles you would use in the course of an investigation
What will be an ideal response?
Logical style—overwhelming evidence is available, persuades subject that cooperation is the only way the charges will be lessened, cooperation will be brought to the attention of the prosecutor of the case; sympathetic style—suspect can be affected by emotional appeal, speaks in low tones, expresses concern, self-pity is shown, grief of guilt is achieved; indifferent style—investigator shows they do not care either way, they are going through the motions and hoping for justice to be served; face-saving style—investigator gives suspect a way out and allows him/her to justify their actions, rationalizing them and the investigator diminished the importance of the actions; egotistical style—investigator tells the suspect how daring the crime was, how difficult it was to commit, how it took a great deal of planning and not just anyone could have pulled it off, suspect tells details to impress the investigator.
