High-quality relationships with peers, parents, and other adults are associated with higher estimates of self-worth and better adjustment. When adolescents feel supported and well-liked by peers, they show high self-esteem; however, self-esteem also predicts social support. It is difficult to determine the direction of influence and is likely a two-way relationship in which they influence one another.
