Logistical innovations
Identify the range of logistical innovations for the school of the future (and even the present) and discuss how the innovations might be utilized.
What will be an ideal response?
ANS: Scoring guide:
Key elements that should appear in an appropriate response:
* In the future, schools could generate their own power, for rooftops in the open sun can include arrays of solar collectors. In some parts of the country, wind-driven generators might be appropriate. A floor construction system consisting of a thin channel of water sandwiched between two layers of waterproof material would force water through the channel whenever students walked on it. Eventually, the water would pass through a turbine that would generate electricity. There also could be "modular schools" consisting of a set of modules for particular needs - administrative modules, instructional modules, special purpose modules, energy modules, and so on. Another possibility is to assign students to a homeroom and have the teachers, rather than the students, exchange classes. That would decrease the need for wide hallways.
* The provision of year-around schools, either 45-15 or 60-15, can decrease the amount of summer learning loss. Community groups (both profit and non-profit in nature) and businesses can use the facilities during the summer (or whenever schools are not in session), in the evenings, and on the weekends.
* Full credit depends on the range and thoroughness of the responses.

Leonard would hint that the mess was getting out of hand, and Justin would promise to pick up over the weekend but never managed to find the time. Leonard gave up trying to talk to Justin about it. Now Leonard is starting to get angry because he can't study in a chaotic environment. He goes to the library to do his work, but when the cold weather hits, he will not be so accommodating.
