Describe the benefits of meditation and why it would be useful to clients.

What will be an ideal response?

Teaching a client meditation can help in decreasing emotional arousal. For example, if a client is presenting with anxiety symptoms or a helper observes anxious behavior in session. Additionally, if a client reports a problem with negative emotions (such as anger), teaching meditation techniques can assist the client. Meditation has been shown to decrease anxiety, panic, and persistent anger, improve positive affect and feelings of well-being. Additionally, it has been shown to reduce stress and tension and improve concentration, joy, and feelings of optimism. Although there are several types of meditation, the author describes mantra meditation and mindfulness.
