The textbook gives four suggestions for the use of humor in a speech. Briefly discuss three of
them.
What will be an ideal response?
(1 ) Use humor to make a point. Your humor should be directly related to your specific
purpose. The connection should be clear to the audience. (2 ) Make yourself the butt of
the joke. This is the best way to avoid offending audience members. (3 ) Use quotes:
quotes, proverbs, or sayings that are humorous?since you didn?t write it yourself, you
can give a more objective appraisal of the humor and the sensitivity. (4 ) Use cartoons?a
good way to begin a speech.
