You are a famous hypnotist, and you have been asked to describe to a group of students the process of hypnosis and the major considerations of each feature of the induction process. Write out your presentation and be sure to include information about susceptibility.

What will be an ideal response?

Relaxation, attention, and suggestion are the common features of the hypnotic induction process across the different hypnotic techniques. The person needs to be in a deep state of relaxation. The hypnotist will act in ways to help the person get into the deep relaxed state, by talking in a calm voice, keeping lights low, eliminating background noise, and putting the person in a comfortable position. The person needs to focus their attention on the hypnotist's voice. Outside distractions need to be minimized as well; if there are interruptions, the hypnotist works to return the person back to focusing on the hypnotist's voice. Once the person is relaxed and focused on the hypnotist's voice, the person is now open to suggestions made by the hypnotist. Individuals vary in how susceptible they are to hypnosis and, therefore, in suggestibility. Less susceptible individuals will not be as susceptible to the suggestions of the hypnotist.
