Jessica, a student with a mild intellectual disability, will be preparing a ‘portfolio.' Discuss the advantages for the teacher and the student of ‘portfolio assessment.' Include in your discussion an explanation of how the teacher can address the key component of self-evaluation

What will be an ideal response?

The portfolio contains observable evidence/products of performance, includes many different sources of information, assists teachers in evaluating student progress toward IEP objectives, guides instruction, emphasizes student products rather than tests/test scores and benefits a student by highlighting her strengths better than traditional tests. The teacher can have a student complete a self-assessment after finishing each unit which becomes a part of her portfolio and also supports her as she selects and evaluates her portfolio pieces.
