Provide a task analysis for either tying a shoe or making a peanut butter sandwich. Assume the shoe is already on the foot and that all the ingredients for the sandwich are out. Assume the student has typical motor skills and knows right from left. Number each step.

Answers may vary, as will number of steps in each task. When grading be sure no major step is left outthat leads to the completed task and that steps are broken down appropriately.

Tying shoe:
1 ) Grasp one lace in each hand.
2 ) Pull laces toward body to tighten.
3 ) Cross laces.
4 ) Bring lace in right hand toward body, over the other lace.
5 ) With thumb, tuck lace that is in the right hand under the other lace and away from body, pulling through from other side.
6 ) With one lace in each hand, simultaneously pull left lace to the left and right lace to the right to tighten laces.
7 ) Form a loop with lace in left hand.
8 ) Form a loop with lace in right hand.
9 ) Cross right loop over left loop.
10 ) Hold laces where they cross with left thumb and forefinger.
11 ) With fingers on right hand, pull loop that is now on the right forward, over, and under loops.
12 ) With right fingers, pull loop all the way through to back.
13 ) With loops in each hand, pull tight.

Making a sandwich:
1 ) Open jar of peanut butter.
2 ) Open bread bag.
3 ) Remove two pieces of bread from bag.
4 ) Place bread on plate.
5 ) Close bread bag.
6 ) Pick up knife in one hand.
7 ) Hold peanut butter jar with other hand.
8 ) Place knife in peanut butter jar.
9 ) Scoop out desired amount of peanut butter.
10 ) Put jar down and pick up one slice of bread and hold flat in hand.
11 ) Place peanut butter on bread with knife and spread around so that bread surface is covered.
12 ) Put down knife on plate.
13 ) Pick up other slice of bread.
14 ) Place bread on top of each other so that peanut butter is between the two slices.
