Identify the three factors for determining your reading speed. Explain each.
What will be an ideal response?
The three factors for determining your reading speed include having a purpose, assessing the difficulty of the material, and knowing how much background knowledge I have. If my purpose is to read for pleasure, then I can read as fast or slow as I want, but if my purpose is to study the material, then my speed needs to be slow. If the material is unfamiliar or difficult, I will read slower than if the material is familiar or easy. If I know a lot of what I am reading (have background knowledge), then I will read faster than if I had little or no background knowledge.
