What is the relationship among drug trafficking, drug abuse, and other forms of crime?

What will be an ideal response?

Drugs and crime are linked in several ways. First, drugs can induce violent behavior in individuals. Second, the cost of illicit drugs induces some users to commit crimes to support their drug habits. Third, relations among participants in the drug distribution system are often characterized by violence.

According to the Department of Justice, there is considerable evidence of a significant relationship between drug use and criminal behavior. Drug users report greater involvement in crime and are more likely than nonusers to have criminal records, people with criminal records are more likely than others to report being drug users, and crimes increase in number as drug use increases.
