The Supreme Court decision known as Citizens United tossed out previously banned corporate contributions in support of any political office. Companies still can’t give money directly to candidates for federal office but they can spend money to encourage others to vote for or against a candidate. Companies can now pay employees to engage in political activities to support a candidate and can solicit donations from the workplace. Now these actions are legal and the question for a PR professional is whether or not this activity should be done.
