What are the four key journalistic roles? List and describe each one.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Journalists act as gatekeepers, meaning they determine what is important and why and decide on what should be covered. Journalists may also act as disseminators, who focus solely on getting out the facts, often disregarding context. A third journalistic role is that of an investigator or analyst, whereby the journalist digs for information and interprets its significance. Finally, journalists may act as public mobilizers, who go beyond reporting by having an agenda and making it part of their job to make citizens aware of what is going on around them and urging them to take action.
