Features of an effective learning strategy include the following:
o They form a first-letter mnemonic strategy that is easy to remember. All of the steps in the strategy need to be in the students’ repertoire, so if they are unable to complete an individual step, it needs to be taught.
o Each step should be short with only the essential words.
o Each step should begin with a verb or a keyword related to the cognitive or behavioral task.
o No more than seven steps should be included.
o The first-letter mnemonic should relate to the overall strategy.
o Familiar and simple vocabulary words should be used.
