For many of your classroom presentations, you will be trying to persuade your audience to adopt, support, or lobby for policy changes. Using the following list of words, create a question of policy for each word and explain why this would be a question of policy: college loans, attendance policies, and textbook rental.
What will be an ideal response?
“College loan deferral periods should be increased to 12 months postgraduation.” This is a question of policy because you are advocating that the current policy on college student loans be changed for the current time of 6 months to 12 months postgraduation. “Class attendance should not be considered part of a student’s performance evaluation in a class.” This is a question of policy because you are advocating for a change in current policy, or that something should or should not be done; in this case, it is that attendance policies shouldn’t count toward a student’s grade in the class. “Our university should adopt a textbook rental system to offset book costs for students attending college.” This is a question of policy because you are lobbying for change in that the university should adopt a textbook rental process that does not already exist.
