A structure/function claim, describes how a nutrient or dietary compound affects the structure or function of the human body. The claims "Calcium builds strong bones" and "Fiber maintains bowel regularity" are examples of structure/function claims. Structure/function claims cannot state that the nutrient or dietary compound can be used to treat a disease or a condition. They do not need to be preapproved by the FDA.
