In satellite communications, a device called a repeater is located in the satellite itself. An Earth station transmits to the satellite at one frequency band, and the satellite regenerates and transmits (repeats) the signal back to Earth on a different frequency. The transmission time needed to repeat a signal from one Earth station to another can be up to 250 milliseconds.
