Describe any 3 effects that alcohol can have on the liver. Which of these are long-term and which are short-term effects?

Excess alcohol can lead to liver tissue inflammation due to the activity of the alcohol-metabolizing enzymes.
Excess alcohol can cause fats to accumulate in the liver, leading to fatty liver. This condition can interfere with the liver's ability to metabolize lipids and other nutrients in the blood.
Long-standing inflammation of liver tissue along with the toxic effects of alcohol can lead to the formation of scar tissue in the liver. If this fibrosis is recognized early on and alcohol consumption is stopped, then liver tissue can regenerate and recover. If liver fibrosis continues, the healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, and the liver cannot recover. This condition is known as cirrhosis of the liver and is not reversible!
