Define the concept of Truth vs. Relativism, how it relates to your worldview, and how it impacts your teaching on a daily basis. Include your results from the philosophy survey.

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “ Relativism, roughly put, is the view that truth and falsity, right and wrong, standards of reasoning and procedures of justification are products of differing conventions and frameworks of assessment and that their authority is confined to the context giving rise to them,” (p.1.). Relativity is the knowing and understanding of ethical principles. There is also relativity in morals which are due to differences in culture rather than to differences in principle. Information is always changing when it comes to relativism. Information may change as time goes on or events in history pass. Truth will not change. According to Knight, “The biblical perspective is that all truth is God’s truth. All truth finds its source in God as the Creator and Originator,”

I am currently a substitute teacher and I live by these two daily. I believe that I practice these two ideas while helping others do the same. I understand that that my beliefs and morals are truths and that they will not change, even with time.  At the same time, I understand that some things will change. There are things in the world that will change especially with education. I believe that change can be good, that there is change with world events and just the world in general. Although, I am not a teacher currently, I will always remember and implement these two ideas in my classroom. I will also teach them in ways that I can while being a substitute teacher and also a sports coach! Like Knight said, “ All truth finds its source in God as the Creator and Originator”.
