An integral component of learning is readiness. Name the term for an "attitude of readiness," and describe ways that teachers can establish an attitude of readiness in students. When should this be done?

An attitude of readiness is referred to as a positive mental set in which students are prepared to focus on the topic presented. Teachers can establish this mental set by beginning a lesson promptly to convey a sense of seriousness, but also need to arouse students' curiosity or interest. This can be accomplished by making the lesson personally relevant to students with an introduction connecting the lesson to events, people, or objects students are familiar with or close to. Humor or drama can also prompt students' interest or curiosity. Teachers need to establish the mental set during the lesson introduction.
