Why do struggling readers seem to benefit more from instruction in the use of word analysis strategies than achieving readers do?

What will be an ideal response?

Achieving readers may have developed their own word recognition skills or may have picked them up by observing others. Struggling readers tend to be less likely and less able to develop skills on their own. They need direct instruction. Since chances are skilled readers have already developed word recognition skills, they don't benefit as much from instruction.
