Outline the difference between rickets, osteomalacia and osteoporosis


In rickets and osteomalacia, the organic matrix is present, but it is not sufficiently mineralized. In osteoporosis, by contrast, a loss of both the organic matrix and bone mineral content occurs. Rickets is a disease of childhood, whereas osteomalacia develops in adults.
