Compare and contrast cross-sectional and longitudinal designs.

What will be an ideal response?

Cross-sectional designs collect data at one point in time and serve as a "snapshot" in time. They are a fairly cheap and efficient method to collect data quickly to answer your research question. Comparatively, longitudinal designs involve data that is collected at least over two or more periods of time. Data collection can be expensive and time consuming, and other factors such as attrition and subject fatigue can impact longitudinal research.
