Explain three means by which police managers can decrease the effects of perceived inequity within a police agency
What will be an ideal response?
First, the manager should ensure that no real inequitable work situations exist. Some individuals in the rank structure may have fewer assignments and responsibilities than others. A second manner by which to reduce perceived inequity is through a sound program of job rotation. A great deal of the perceived inequity within a police agency comes from the members of one unit not understanding the activities of other units. A third way to reduce (perceived) inequity is through supervision. The supervisor is responsible for identifying officers with motivation problems and deriving solutions to those problems.
