Advocates provide information about legal rights and the criminal justice process. Assistance in applying for state victim compensation aid and referrals to social service agencies are also key services. She or he may be required to attend court hearings in support of victims, assist in filing of forms for domestic violence criminal and civil restraining orders, and respond to hospital or law enforcement referrals to provide advocacy. Domestic Violence Advocates provides legal advocacy services such as notification of and accompaniment to court hearings; education regarding the court system and domestic violence; liaison with prosecutors, probation officers, and court personnel; and safety planning.
