What is the Federal Test Procedure (FTP) and what is it intended to simulate?

What will be an ideal response?

The FTP is a set of tests conducted by vehicle manufacturers to show that a vehicle model complies with EPA emission standards before the vehicles can be sold in the United States. The test simulates various driving conditions and driver behavior and is performed on pre-production prototypes of new vehicle models driven by trained drivers on a test dynamometer simulating real road force conditions.
