Discuss the debate surrounding education for Puerto Ricans in the early 20th century

What will be an ideal response?

The federal policy was to Americanize Puerto Ricans through education with the instructional language in schools being English. The students were expected to also learn American ways in school. Puerto Rican teachers wanted to focus education on their native language and culture and defend Spanish as their language of instruction. In 1934, the Padin Reform limited English instruction to high schools.
