Ans: The mean is the mathematical average of a set of numbers. The mean is useful for comparing two or more groups because the difference in their mathematical averages provides a point of easy comparison. The median represents the center point in a set of numbers that have been arranged in ascending or descending order. The median is very useful in statistics because it gives us an understanding about the distribution of a variable. The mode is the most frequently used number in a dataset. It tells us which number is most commonly encountered or has the highest frequency in a specific set of numbers. The mode is somewhat resistant to additional numbers in the distribution (even outliers). This quality makes the mode a preferred source of information when the variable includes outliers. The mode can provide additional information that can potentially clarify any misleading information from the first two measures, that is, the range or the difference between the maximum and minimum values in a set of numbers. The range is the difference between the largest and the smallest numbers in the set. The interquartile range is used to define whether we have some outliers in our variable (examples used will vary).
