Explain the pros and cons of joining a union from the employees' perspective.

What will be an ideal response?

Employees might vote to have a union represent them for any number of reasons including: need for improvement in wages and working conditions, lack of respect from management, need for a safer or more secure working environment, difficulty communicating with bosses, or unfair working hours. The overriding reason is power-a united group inevitably wields more power.

Some workers are reluctant to join unions. Sometimes this is due to a perception that union leaders are corrupt or a belief that the benefits are not worth the cost of union dues. Some employees may also not want to be forced into doing something, such as striking, or be a part of any downsides to organizational effectiveness.
