Identify self-expectations and describe how they relate to self-esteem

What will be an ideal response

Self-expectations are the goals we set for ourselves. For example, if a person wants to lose ten pounds by the holidays, he or she has set a self-expectation. While setting goals can be beneficial, when it's time to measure whether the goal has been accomplished, it can be detrimental to a person's self-esteem. When a goal of losing ten pounds turns into a gain of two pounds, the person's self-esteem will be affected negatively.
