Explain how slope aspect can affect vegetation patterns in highlands

Slope aspect leads to different microclimates. In the Northern Hemisphere, for example, north-facing slopes have microclimates that are cooler and wetter than south-facing slopes. Some plants thrive on the sunny south-facing slopes, while others prefer the conditions on north-facing ones. The steepness and shape of slopes also affect the amount of time water is present there before draining downslope.
